Most of my copywriting work is for clients who have a lot of information to get across. In particular, I write for B2B and services businesses, healthcare professionals, places and venues, and businesses offering niche products. Reader-friendly translations of complex or technical information come as standard.
I’m based in Macclesfield, and most of my copywriting clients are in the Manchester area. There’s nothing like being able to get together face-to-face whenever you want to talk through a project. Thanks to the power of Skype and email, however, I also work regularly with people across the UK and further afield.
Copywriting: How I work
The first step is for us to talk, so we can find out whether we’re right for each other. Once that’s decided, the next step is for me to learn as much as I can about the subject. A big part of this is a brain dump meeting. I put together a few questions as a starting point, but we go wherever the conversation takes us. The best insights often come when you least expect them. Bring your team in, too - particularly people who are close to customers.
At the start of the project, I’ll also be busy researching your field and your competitors, and thinking about your target audience. If it’s a web project, I might also be looking at analytics reports from your current site together with keyword research that shows what words and phrases people looking for what you offer are using when they search.
As soon as I have all the information I need, I start to plan and then to write. Straightforward projects may take just one meeting, with a first draft for your comments followed shortly by a second and final version. Longer or more complicated projects may involve more steps.
If you already have a designer or web team on board, put us in touch. If you don’t, I can recommend good people who I work with regularly. A little creative teamwork can make a big difference to the finished result.
